Reflections in Romans (or The Revelation of the Apostle Paul) - Sonnet 2

--- --- ---

We do the things we do not want to do;

The Pharisees see only me and you.

They focus on such faults to high degree,

But fail to ever fall on bended knee.

They turn their faces inward, to themselves;

Their own ideals they choose to mark upheld.

And while they plot to circumvent our Lord,

They cannot hear the sharp'ning of His Sword.

Yet, sadness pierces through the heart of hearts

When voices craft their cruel and sly remarks;

For God created, loves them just as we,

And Christ for them, like us, was sent to free.

We are the same, those Pharisees and I.

While underwhelm we will, His Grace supplies.
