Welcome to the Jungle: An Observation of Law School
Another entry from my journal dates back to the fall of 2020, illustrating a comparison I drew while observing the library in my university's School of Law.

The worn leather chair that has served as my loyal companion has not moved in the last week. As I sit down once again, reflecting on the great whirlwind that (again) dictated this last week, it comes as a sigh of relief that I should lean back to ponder life and all the mysteries that come with it in such a comfortable and reliable armchair. Like a king on his throne and an executive at their desk, so I begin my day, sorting out problems and sparking my brain to action.
The School of Law is peculiar to me...wherever you go, there is a sort of silence, but not one of tranquility. Instead, it's like a tiger, hunched in the overgrown jungle grass as it eyes its prey. That silence, a cunning and calculated hush, comes with an air of tension all around it, but it is controlled, focused, like a laser or the hands of a surgeon. Every ounce of energy crackling through the air is honed for purpose; for advancement, for the pursuit of knowledge, and my lowly self stands in stark contrast to every aspiring attorney or judge that toils away at their reading and assignments. Out of all the minds present here, I am truly the least of these.
