Higher Aim - Sonnet 17
- - -
The greatest rank of soldier is the one
Who, in their quest of war, desires peace
Of life and mind, removed from bloody siege
And terrors of the battles they have won;
And to your wondering: all instruments
Of bloodlust have the capability,
In fact, to be ingrained and still the sea
Of swirls and curves from foreknown incidents.
And such tranquility is wont to blow
In transmutation through the carnal mind
To calm, benevolent detachment: find
The Master Potter, and His jars will show
The weary wanderer the easy yolk,
Their spears be beat to scythes in light of hope.
