Quiet Waters - Sonnet 19
- - -
Oh Father, how my spirit runs astray.
I look to you for harmony, to sit
In silent solitude, to seek no counterfeit
Against Your charity. Teach me to stay
On bended knee, to do Your Will, to bind
Your Word and priestly order on my heart,
To soak in birdsong and your Holy Art
With spirit, soul, and body, more than mind.
And where the rivers run through curve and bend
And sunlight trickles through the misty pine,
Please draw my soul to that I cannot find
With all my earthly effort in the end.
And as I pause, Your Spirit seeks my soul
And grants it solace in Your Peace untold.
