Such Lofty Dreams

- - -

When lost in classics 'ere my time,
I find myself in abject awe
Of centuries where prose and rhyme
Were wholly evident to all.
So unabashed in speech and tale
Are thinkers of the bygone year.
I wonder to myself, "Oh, will
There ever be another clear
Command of thought, of mystic tongue
That bows unto a grateful mind?
Indeed, although my heart is young,
I stand upon a hope to find
Whatever did possess those souls
To summon forth such lofty dreams!
For one day, I, with names of old,
May find my own between the seams."
