Not All is Required - Sonnet 24
What breaks as divine inspiration now?
The ink flows asunder with several lacks
Of current, and beneath the parchment cracks
The weight of single indecisions. How
Could one draw collation, but to a scale
Intent to sling its sentence through the wall,
Yet yields not to the hammer as they call
For order and the courtroom splits the vale?
But not all is required: for to push
The mercy pen with too much heft, to shake
So hard the oakwood splits, would doubly break
The signature that forced it; and to hush
The grand march out would hasten evil’s song,
So let the caissons go rolling along.
