Within the Pilgrim’s Well
“A carpenter
Who works his whole career
Within a single shop
Knows just the knowledge
From the stagnant foreman,
Trained into his muscles
Through the years and years
Of seamless repetition,
This the only way he knows.
But then, a pilgrim carpenter,
Who wanders near and far
And gathers wisdom in his pocket
Like the grains of sand
That coat his distant lands,
Can understand all methods
And then dictate which is best.
“Therefore, be wise to listen:
If you find yourself
A sojourned soul within a stranger city
To which you were sent
Against, and thus above,
Your recognition and your power,
There is truth within each speck of dust
You gather in your boots,
And much more to discern
Beyond your free perception.
Learn to learn,
And learn to listen;
Learn to speak,
And then to listen closely.
Only then, then rightly learn to sow
As you acquire knowledge:
When the time is right,
You will reap wisdom evermore.”
