Renewed in the Rain - Sonnet 45
Awake, my rosebud: rise upon the dawn,
And champion your heart away from death
With every bit of longing in your breath
In light that rolling dark will soon be gone;
What has been given, none will take away,
As with your sweet ability to drink
The raindrops in the storm; oh, petal, think
As thunderous April showers fall in May:
Do not despise the deluge for its strength;
All in the pelting gale is all you need
To gather up your own; no dying breed
Are you. dear blossom: never through the length
Of long-fought lightnings has a flower fell
By taking what it gives the earth so well.
